Cleghorn Fire Road (2N47)
Ridge run with incredible views. The main road is 2WD friendly; offshoots require 4x4. Perfect introduction to mountain wheeling with panoramic vistas of the Cajon Pass.
Lytle Creek / Stockton Flats
Perfect for a quick run. Light water crossings and shaded campsites along the creek. Great for families and beginner groups looking to practice water crossing techniques.
Holcomb Creek
Iconic rock crawling trail. The Gatekeeper sets the tone - if you can't clear it, turn back. Holcomb Creek crossing and deep ruts make this a must-do for experienced wheelers.
Gold Mountain (3N69)
Starts easy, ends challenging. The rock garden at the summit tests both driver and rig. Nylon strap recommended - this trail is notorious for body damage. Unmatched summit views of Baldwin Lake.
Dishpan Springs
The big leagues. Deep bowls, off-camber climbs, and shelf roads that'll test the best-built rigs. Named for the bathtub-size springs. Bring recovery gear and expect body damage.
Mojave Road (West/Central)
Historic desert crossing from Colorado River to Barstow. Sand, lava tubes, volcanic formations, and the iconic Mojave mailbox. Bring extra fuel and water.
Ocotillo Wells SVRA
California's largest OHV area. Sand dunes, badlands, mud caves, and slot canyons. Blowsand Hill tests your climbing skills.
Berdoo Canyon
Sand and small rocks through canyon. Extra credit obstacles at the end. Any 4x4 can handle the main trail.
Coxey Road (10S01)
Easy fire road perfect for beginners. Winding through pine forests with multiple spur roads for dispersed camping. Great for testing new rigs.
Dumont Dunes
The tallest dunes in California. Competition Hill separates the brave from the willing. Wide-open sand playground with extreme terrain.
Thimble Trail
Narrow shelf road winding through pine forest. Steep drop-offs and tight turns require precision.
John Bull Trail
The Gatekeeper stops most stock rigs. Deep ruts, massive ledges, and tight squeezes. Legendary for eating body panels.
Odessa-Doran Loop
Popular loop connecting historic Holcomb Valley sites. Mix of fire road and technical rock sections.
Outer Limits
Part of the King of the Hammers course. Extreme rock crawling and high-speed desert sections.
Jack North Trail
Rolling desert trail with scenic views of Johnson Valley and surrounding ranges.
Big Johnson
Named with humor, this trail delivers serious challenges. Steep rock ledges and tight squeezes.
Idyllwild Mountain Road
Scenic mountain road from Hemet to Idyllwild. Paved then graded dirt through pine forests.
Truckhaven Trail

Scenic forest route following Knickerbocker Creek. Great for families and beginners looking for easy mountain wheeling with beautiful views.

Radford Truck Trail - FS 2N06

Hard-packed sand and rocky gravel. Easy summer ride. No winter maintenance.
Gold Fever - 3N05
Scenic loop through Holcomb Valley with Gold Rush history stops. Mild terrain.

Winds through Cleveland Forest from Pamo Road. Very rutted - not well maintained.
Santa Ysabel Truck Trail
Narrow shelf road in Cleveland NF following Santa Ysabel Creek. Beautiful mountain views.
11S04 Black Mountain
Limited-use trail in Cleveland NF Palomar District. Street-legal vehicles only.
11S03 Lusardi Truck Trail
Ascends Carney Canyon between Black Butte and SenciΓ³ Peak. Great views.
Cedar Creek Loop
Beautiful backcountry loop near three different waterfalls. Mix of graded dirt roads with some technical sections.
Tecate Peak
Mellow 2-track road to Tecate Peak. Grave road lower section. Ruts after rain.
Nate Harrison Grade
Dirt road into Palomar Mountain State Park. From scrubland to lush forests. Some rocky areas - high clearance recommended.
Corral Canyon Road
Main east-west connector in Corral Canyon OHV area. Poorly maintained forest service road.

8S05 North Palomar Mountain Road
Well-maintained but expect large rocks, ruts, steep drop-offs. Weather dependent.
15S18 Sheephead Mountain Road
4.6 mile out-and-back to top. Full 6.8 mile if going to terminus. Great views.
Las Alturas
Begins off Mexico 2 near El Hongo. Fork right after toll road. Varied terrain.
16S08 Fred Canyon Road
Usually run with Fred Canyon to create loop. Forest service road.
Grapevine Canyon Trail
Hard-packed dirt through private property - be respectful. Rocky to smooth dirt.
15S05 La Posta Truck Trail
Usually run with Fred Canyon. 7.6 mile point-to-point in Cleveland NF.
Blair Valley Loop
In Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Two small valleys with attractions to see.
McCain Valley Road
Scenic high desert drive with two overlooks of Carrizo Canyon. Great lunch spot at Corrizo Overlook.
Mine Wash
9.6 mile out-and-back in Anza-Borrego. Stay the Trail area. Street-legal only.
El Compadre
Well-maintained dirt road stretching from El Hongo to Oso Negro. Gateway to numerous ranches.
Rouse Ridge via Cottonwood
Scales Rouse Ridge/Thomas Mountain with stunning 360 views. Great combination trail.
San Jacinto Ridge Trail FS 5S09
Two-way trail between Banning-Idyllwild Highway and Bee Canyon. Mostly hard-pack dirt with stunning mountain views.
Black Mountain
Well-maintained fire road to Boulder Basin. Turnouts for rock climbing along the way.
6S13 Thomas Mountain Road
Uneven, rutted dirt trail with loose rocks and sand. Muddy in rain season. Steep sections.
Santa Rosa Truck Trail 7S02

Rouse Hill Road
Street-legal only - no green stickers. Full-size friendly with plenty of room.
Eureka Peak
360-degree views from the top. Multiple hiking trails throughout. Best at sunset.
Rockhouse Canyon Road
19.8-mile out-and-back in Anza Borrego. Starts at Clark Dry Lake. Street-legal vehicles only.
Coyote Canyon Road
Part of the famous wildflowers tour in Anza Borrego. Highway legal only. Smooth dirt surface.
Geology Tour Road
Family-friendly loop inside Joshua Tree National Park. Scenic with volcanic lava rocks and interesting rock formations.
New Dixie Mine Road BLM C2330
8.5 mile road from Hwy 247. Generally an easy drive. Valley and wilderness views.
Integratron
Great intro to desert driving. Wide enough for two cars, framed by Joshua Trees.
Roadrunner Rut BLM S1421
Easy dirt road climbing into boulder gardens. Changes name crossing BLM lands.
Giant Rock
Cross Means Lakebed to reach Giant Rock. Smooth desert sand with small washes. Lots of trail choices.
BLM C3524
Mellow sandy road climbing into boulders. Rated 2 only because of a couple obstacles.
Bighorn Connector
Well-used connecting BLM roads near wilderness boundary. Easy sandy combo.

Expansive desert playground. Northern Johnson Valley known for extreme rock-crawling Hammers.
